Frag-o-Matic 14: LIVE COVERAGE!!!

A few weeks ago we announced that our players would attend the eSports event Frag-o-Matic: 14 in Belgium. After yesterdays trip of two hours all KnightS* players safely arrived at FoM. Even tough most of them did not have a proper overnight sleep, all of them are ready for the competitions.

StarCraft2:
The tournament will start with a group stage where all players will have to battle out a best-of-three series. The first two players will advance to the play-offs. The play-offs will contain a double elimination bracket to give players a second chance in the loser brackets if they get knocked out.

FIFA12:
The tournament will be played in a best-of-three double-elimination bracket structure. This means there will be a winner and a loser bracket. Resulting in a final between the winner of the winners bracket and the winner of the losers bracket.

KnightS at Live2Game FIFA12 Tournament

With FOM 14.0 coming up, KnightS* have been very busy with offline events the past few months.
Two of our KnightS players will also attend another offline event this weekend. This time it will be the Live2Game FIFA12 Tournament sponsored by Medir Media. This event will take place at the youth centre called "De DraaiKolk" in Almere and the game will be played on a PS3 Console. This will also be Live2Game's first FIFA Tournament of 2012.

The two players who will attend this event are:

These 2 players managed to take the first and second place at their last 1on1 offline event in Eindhoven, and also managed to take the second place with 2on2 at the same offline event. They have been playing alot lately to improve their game, and are looking forward to their next event already.

KnightS Returning To Frag-o-Matic

As spring is nearby so is the LAN season. Every year the Benelux LAN season kicks of with Frag-o-Matic in Wieze, Belgium. This year is not any different. After the pirate theme of last edition this event will be held with "space" as it's main theme. Most likely all 800 seats will be filled with fierce competitors in various competitions.
The organisation already announced competitions for:

- League of Legends - € 750.00 cash + € 1000.00 hardware
- Counter-Strike: Source - € 750.00 cash + € 1000.00 hardware
- Starcraft II - € 1500.00 hardware
- Call of Duty 4 - € 500.00 cash + € 1000.00 hardware
- Counter-Strike 1.6 - € 600.00 hardware
- Trackmania Nations: Forever - € 400.00 hardware
- FIFA 2012 - € 1000.00 hardware
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - € 400.00 hardware

Just like last edition KnightS* will compete in the FIFA12 and StarCraft II competition. Last time Jeroen 'Ackkie' Jennen won the FIFA11 competition. He will be back again to defend his title. However with Ben 'toyboy51' Torbeyns recent streak of cup wins and Rick 'jimi' Hendrix overall good LAN performances KnightS* will also have two other players capable of winning the event. Gyula 'Pixel' den Engelsman and Eric 'WiseEye' Saive will try to improve their last results spending extra time in preparing themselves. However winning the StarCraft II competition will be hard with competitors like such LLL PoYo, LLL orly and various players from the Wallonian Brothers Community having signed up already.

This weekend on Sunday the 22nd of January, four of our KnightS* FIFA players will be attending the PushStart EXP FIFA12 Tournament at Eindhoven. There will be a 1on1 and a 2on2 Tournament during this event.

The four players who will attend this tournament are:

Our FIFA players have been doing very well online, and we hope that they will achieve the same thing offline. TomstylEzzz is currently number 1 on the European ESL Ladder and has won a few online money tournaments over the past few weeks. Adkew started playing FIFA12 a bit later than our other players because he still had some online tournaments with FIFA11, but he is currently practising a lot of FIFA12. Our Team-Captains Jimi & SiKe are also practising very hard. Jimi got a 3rd place and 100 euro at his last offline tournament. So overall we think that our four players will do very well at the PushStart EXP FIFA12 Tournament. We wish our FIFA players good luck!

KnightS* 2011 Flashback

2011 has been a very important year for KnightS* and we would like to look back at all we have done one more time. First of all we want to wish everybody a good and healthy 2012 and hope it will bring the world of eSports another great year.

Short flashback at the period from 2003 untill 2011
As some of you know, KnightS* has a great history which started somewhere in 2003. KnightS* was founded in 2003 by Ludwin “Quest” de Bruijn in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It started out with one team competing in Call of Duty. This team became a big success and won the Dutch Championships in 2004 for example. After the success of this team, KnightS* decided to expand. Since then our players have been visiting a lot of national and international tournaments being very successful and having won over 100 awards.

In April 2010 after a period of inactivity Richard “Nafy” Leermakers took over the position of Ludwin “Quest” de Bruijn and decided to relaunch KnightS*. After a period of organizing KnightS* returned in January 2011 with a new structure but the same vision.

Looking back at 2011
In January of 2011 the KnightS* management was very busy creating the structure of the organization. The current website came on-line in beta phase and the management team was getting it's final shape. Busy with finishing the final touch on the organization policy and vision the management team also started looking for their first teams and players.

In March the moment was finally there, KnightS* added it's first team again. This was a StarCraft 2 team lead by Philip “Piet Friet” Spitters. This was a great moment for KnightS* because it meant we where back in the eSports community once again.

Next to the StarCraft2 team KnightS* was adding another in team April a few weeks later. This was the Call of Duty 4 team led by Sidney "SidelzZ" Desair. As the roots of KnightS* are in the Call of Duty series we where glad we found an excellent team to represent us in this scene once more.
The same month our StarCraft 2 and our Call of Duty 4 team attended their first LAN’s since the relaunch of KnightS*. For StarCraft this was the Mad Processor LAN and for Call of Duty this was Outpost On Fire 4. Slowly KnightS* regained it's position within the eSports community, which reacted positively about our return.

In the end of April KnightS* attended the Dutch LAN event The-Party where we announced the KnightS* FIFA was back on the fields with Rick 'jimi' Hendrix as captain. We managed to take the first and second place right away which was great start! With this result KnightS* FIFA was back at the top of the BeNeLux.

The upcoming moths KnightS* continued the good work. The teams participated to a lot of online and offline events with great results. We also managed to get supported by three sponsors who made it possible for us to continue and grow even further in the world of professional eSports.

The highest peak we had this year was in December. Our FIFA player Florim "FloRiM" Ajdari from Belgium managed to qualify for a spot at the World Cyber Games finals in Busan, South Korea. This definitely was the biggest highlight of 2011.

We want to thank everyone for their effort and support. We also want to send special thanks our sponsors: X-raypad, ViTi-Network and Merkpartij for supporting KnightS* in various ways.

Fun statistics of 2011:

* The KnightS* teams played over 1500 official matches, which resulted in 72.14% wins, 27.16% losses and 0.7% draws.

* The KnightS* teams have climbed the podium 105 time. 51 of those achievements were by our FIFA team, 39 by our StarCraft 2 team and 15 by our Call of Duty 4 team.

* In November 2011 KnightS* got the most achievements with a total of 23.

* Our Call of Duty 4 player ctaz and Fifa player Toyboy51 got the most achievements for KnightS* in 2011 with a total of 14 each.

* KnightS* managed to get 11 podium spots at LAN events.

* Of the 105 achievements 36 were 1st places, 33 were 2nd places and 35 were 3rd places.

* The KnightS* website had +/- 2.277 visits each month.

* The KnightS* website had +/- 649 absolute unique visits each month.

* The KnightS* website had +/- 12.478 page views each month.

* The KnightS* website had +/- 162 registered users total.

* The KnightS* website had +/- 3586 forum posts total.

With KnightS* participating in the first season and already in the CGm league things were looking very promising. During the first season KnightS* also participated in the Corsair Vengeance Cup. What followed were some stunning results against the very best teams of Europe. Blessed with the the good results KnightS* managed to secure themselves a spot in the next CGi league.

Update* Quest and toyboy51 attending Rubii games FIFA 12 tournament

KnightS* manager Quest and FIFA12 player toyboy51 will play at the Rubii Games FIFA 12 tournament at Dordrecht this week. Wednesday there will be a tournament for Xbox360 players, and on friday the PlayStation3 section will compete in their own FIFA12 Competition.

Our Manager Quest normally doesn't play with our PC squad, because he plays FIFA12 on an Xbox360. However he wants to see if he can compete with the rest of the Xbox360 scene, and try to get as far as possible.

FIFA12 player toyboy51 performed very well lately in some online PC competitions. He showed the rest of us that he is able to compete for a podium spot. Now it's time to do the same thing on the PlayStation 3 offline.

Any predictions are hard to make as we already experienced that at the Topdeals FIFA tournament in Eindhoven last month. Especially because we found out that the Console scene has a lot of good players. Besides that, old well known top players such as Dignitas\vnX and OmniRocket are attending. This means that a podium spot would be a very nice achievement.

*Update: Due to unforeseen circumstances, Quest was not able to attend the Rubii Games Tournament.

*Update: toyboy51 has finished second in his group and couldn't go to the play offs. Omnirocket turned out to be the best player, and eventually won the Tournament.

the end of June but already proved to be a valuable member of the StarCraft II team. Although RainMan was performing very well

While our FIFA player Florim is still in Korea the E-Sport Bond (Dutch E-Sport Association) saw the opportunity to interview Florim about his participation on the event. Ruben "CompleX-" Been a member of the E-Sport Bond accompanied the two BeNeLux players Olivier "Orly" Bellemans and Florim "FloRiM" Ajdari to the WCG 2011 in Korea took this exclusive interview.

Exclusief interview met Florim "FloRiM" Ajdari over WCG 2011

Busan, 10 december 2011 - Florim vertelt over zijn ervaring tijdens de World Cyber Games Grand Final 2011 en legt uit wat er mis ging in zijn poule.

Dit is voor jou de eerste keer dat je aan een World Cyber Games Grand Final hebt deelgenomen. Wat is jouw algemene indruk?
Het is echt een geweldige ervaring. Je maakt dit waarschijnlijk maar één keer in je leven mee en dan moet je die kans ook grijpen. WCG zelf vind ik een bijzonder goed georganiseerd evenement. Ze hebben werkelijk aan alles gedacht!

Je bent 6e geworden in de poule en lag er dus vroeg uit. Wat ging er mis?
Mijn eerste wedstrijd verliep vrij goed. Ik heb WickyBG (één van de topfavorieten) op een gelijkspel kunnen houden, maar daarna werd ik veel te zenuwachtig en kreeg ik veel te snel doelpunten tegen. Hierdoor raakte ik een beetje in paniek en maakte ik fouten die ik normaal gesproken niet maak.
Het was ook de eerste deelname aan zo'n groot toernooi en moest er ook even aan wennen om met die druk om te gaan.

In de eerste wedstrijd heb je WickyBG op een gelijk spel kunnen houden. Hoe voelt dat?
Ik startte heel goed tegen WickyBG en dat voelt natuurlijk wel goed. Hij was de topofavoriet en in deze poule heeft verder niemand winst of een gelijkspel eruit kunnen slepen. Dat mij het wel gelukt is om gelijk tegen hem te spelen doet me goed. Maar eerlijk gezegd is het misschien niet een hele grote prestatie, aangezien met FIFA alles kan gebeuren.

Hoe vind je het Fifa 2011 toernooi verder verlopen? Zijn er in jouw ogen nog verrassingen?
Het toernooi verliep verder vrij goed. De scheidsrechters lette goed op en namen gepaste maatregelen bij overtredingen.
Verder zijn er een heleboel verrassingen. Zowel WickyBG, Krasi, Bebe en lonewolf, waarvan ik dacht dat dit de top 4 zouden eindigen, hebben geen van allen de finale kunnen halen. Enkel lonewolf staat in de top 4.

hom3r en deto staan tegenover elkaar in de finale. Had jij van te voren verwacht dat deze mannen in de finale zouden staan?
Ik had dit absoluut niet verwacht. Zelf had ik gedacht dat WickYBG en lonewolf elkaar in de finale zouden treffen, maar zo zie je dat met FIFA alles kan en je ook wat geluk moet hebben dat alles mee zit.

Wie verwacht jij dat de finale zal winnen?
Van mij mag de beste winnen. Wie dat zal zijn zullen we morgen zien, maar ik zal een gokje wagen en denk dat hom3r het zal winnen.

Nog shout-outs?
Allereerst wil ik de E-sportbond bedanken voor het mogelijk maken van deze reis. Ook verdient Cédric "cedriic" Verlinden een bedankje! Ook al vind ik het vervelend dat hij heeft moeten afzeggen, ben ik wel ontzettend blij dat ik hierdoor de kans kreeg om naar Zuid-Korea te gaan.
Verder wil ik Olivier "Orly" Bellemans van LowLandLions en Ruben "CompleX-" Been van E-sportbond bedanken voor hun support tijdens het toernooi.
